Jamaicans Urged to Reject Negative Stereotypes

Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Jamaica, Malgorzata Wasilewska, is urging members of the society to reject negative stereotypes and promote positive ones that will redound to the benefit of Jamaica.

'You have so many negative stereotypes that are exposed in things like ‘a man must be tough and not be a sissy’; and ‘man fi have nuff gal inna bundle'

Those have to be changed, and it is up to you to promote different stereotypes and reject those negative ones,” she said.

SCQ : Ardenne soars past Wolmer's Girls

In a dominant display, Ardenne High caused tears of disappointment to flow from Wolmer's Girls on Tuesday after the 13th match in Round Two of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz, which, Ardenne won 40 - 25.

From the start, the odds seemed to be in favour of the confident Ardenne team comprising Themba Mkhize (captain), Addison Biggs, Dahlia Thomas, and Dominique Stewart.

Three of the members took the school to third place last year. The school also boasts a rich history of winning the competition seven times, the last time being 2015.

Touch Of Jamaican Warmth In New York

Seven students and two teachers from Ardenne High School were recently in New York City to participate in the 2017 World Federation of United Nations Associations (UFUNA) conference.

In addition to the United Nations activities, Ardenne High students also had an opportunity to visit the American Museum of Natural History and spend a day at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, the oldest public high school in that borough.

The students from both schools thoroughly enjoyed the interactions. Students from both the schools shared their experiences with Arts and Education.

Ardenne High School Standing Strong At 90

For 90 years, Ardenne High School has committed itself to producing some of the most prominent and influential men and women of Jamaica, deeply embedding in them values of godliness, honesty, respect and guiding them on their various game-changing paths.

Ardenne kicked off its 90th anniversary celebratory activities yesterday with a church service at the Olson Chapel on Hope Road in St Andrew, which was attended by a full house of Ardenne administrative staff, students and past students.

John S. Pistole, former deputy director of the FBI and head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the United States, will be the keynote speaker on Sunday at a church service in Kingston that will kick off the 90th anniversary celebrations for Ardenne High School.

Ardenne High School, by its track record, is considered a flagship institution for secondary education in the Caribbean region, and Pistole will address a church service this Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Olson Chapel at 35 Hope Road to kick off a year of celebrations for the school's 90th anniversary.

Ardenne Makes Decision Based On Faith

On realising that physically disabled student at Ardenne High School in Kingston, Faith Grant, would be unable to attend a class held only on one of the institution's upper floors, the school's administration promptly moved to solve the challenge..

Electronic document preparation and management , a Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate subject designed to equip students with clerical and administrative skills, was one of the eight subjects Faith selected when she started fourth form.

But being the school's sole wheelchair-bound student placed her at a disadvantage as she was unable to attend classes in the designated rooms.

Math Whizzes - 94 Ardenne High Fourth-Form Students Get Grade One In CSEC

Ardenne High School's commitment to providing quality education was clearly demonstrated with 101 of its grade-10 students achieving success in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) mathematics exam this year. Ninety-four of the students achieved grade one passes, and 88 earned straight-A profiles.

Ann Mason, head of the mathematics department at the St Andrew school, said the impressive pass rate affirmed the institution's objectives of ensuring that every student is given the opportunity to excel. The mathematics programme is in its fourth year. There was similar success in the past three years. Mason indicated that in 2015, fifty-eight grade 10 students also performed above average with similar results.

Six inducted into Executive Principals’ League

KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — Six principals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities have been chosen as the second batch to be officially inducted into the National College for Educational Leadership (NCEL) Executive Principals’ League (EPL).

They are principal of Allman Town Primary, Kandi-Lee Alexandria Crooks-Smith; principal of Manchester High, Jasford Gabriel; principal of Ardenne High, Nadine Molloy; principal of Petersfield Primary and Infant, Susan Rattray-Hammond; principal of York Castle High, Raymon Treasure; and principal of Belmont Academy, Rayon Simpson.
